Woodstream was founded in the imagination of our nine children as "a place where anything can happen". It is set sometime in the 1800s, and is located along a backyard creek bed which is more often dry than not. Prairie bonnets and coon skin caps are the fashion of the day. Pop guns bring home the buffalo and keep away the bears. God's word is preached by the sheriff, and not just on Sunday. Mud cakes and algae pies are a town delicacy. Indians come by to share stories, and exhausted pioneers often stay and claim a homestead of their own.
Soon, the joys of Woodstream spread to us, their parents. We watched the children play, and we watched the children grow. Our boys longed to be men - real men who love their sisters and are willing to fight to protect their honor. Our daughters began to delight in their femininity and to appreciate the strength and watchful eyes of their brothers.
Our first hope chest was a birthday gift for our oldest daughter. As this family project progressed, we realized that we were not just building a chest in which to preserve the past, we were crafting our future. Our children's hearts were pulled to their father as was Dad's heart to his children.
We soon founded Woodstream Craftworks as a family business. It is where sons will be trained to be industrious young men, and daughters will be nurtured into excellent young women.
